The
good, bad and ugly.

Random thoughts....
Be careful! If you
want to shop your Homeowners Insurance
around, but you've had a water claim within the last 3 to 5
years.... Think again! Because of the "mold
scare", a lot of
companies won't write new business with past water damage
claims. A lot of companies have limitations on mold coverage, but a lot of
companies still won't write new business because their "mold limitation
endorsement" hasn't been court tested. Agents might write coverage and
collect a premium - but if their company rejects coverage (after giving a 30 day
binder) - you will be in a world of hurt.
Most insurance
companies seem to be "rewriting" their book of business - especially auto
insurance. If you've had several comp claims in the past three years, you
may be getting some bad news. Remember.... If you get bad news... Contact
your agent immediately. For example: We had a company increase a
customer's comp & collision deductibles to $1,000 because of past losses.
However, in researching the insured's loss history, his loss ratio was only 31%
over the past five years. We were able to get the deductibles back to being more
manageable. Getting bad news from an insurance company
isn't always the "final say". Rely on your agent to help. If he
won't help, or at least try to help, get a new agent.
